The Sultanate of Oman is famous of its mountainous terrain known for its toughness and hardness, which is located in the north in the mountains of Musandam, the green mountain, Jabal Shams, and, in the south where the Dhofar mountain is located. These mountains mean lots of tourists and visitors who love to see the hidden mysteries  and the stunning scenery, also that the adventurers can see the harsh nature in the rising daylight and what is hidden in the cover of darkness during the trekking and overnight or what beauty it shows  while the sun is rising.


There is a mountain which is frequented by visitors and tourists, it is considered as an attractive tourist site because of its tourism components. Jabal Samhan, is one of the highest mountains in the Arabian Peninsula, located in Dhofar, south of the Sultanate of Oman, and it is in the eastern part of the Dhofar mountain range, which is administratively shared by Sadah and Wilaya Mirbat in the Dhofar Governorate, Sultanate of Oman.


Jabal Samhan ( Mount Samhan ) is considered as one of the most important mountain ranges in Dhofar Governorate, with a maximum height of 2,100 meters. Mount Samhan includes many plains with narrow and deep corridors, some of which reaches about 1,000 meters.



The mountain is characterized by houses scattered on its slopes and residents for those who work and are active in grazing and raising livestock, where the mountain is located 75 kilometers away from the east of Salalah, and is characterized by its high altitude, steep slopes, and scarcity of the seasonal rains. It is mostly consists of limestone bases and the largest part of it is a natural reserve.

The Plain of Jabal Samhan is also distinguished by the presence of sporadic plants scattered here and there with the presence of some mulatto and frankincense trees, they have narrow mountain paths and are characterized by the presence of a seasonal water torrent, which are characterized as an important water source for most of the animals in the region. Some creatures are found in the mountainous region, such as the Arabian tiger (as one of the rare animals), the Nubian ibex, the Arabian gazelle and some foxes, the wild rabbit, rock lint, Indian Cactus, the desert hedgehog and many types of birds. Sometimes local predators may be present. Other predators, which are found in the reserve, include the lynx, striped hyena and the Arabian wolf.

Previously it was difficult to reach Jabal Samhan from the southeastern corner of Dhofar Governorate, and the south of Oman Governorate, it is now easy to reach it by road via car or bus.
